Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 2026

Introduction

Askie ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of children and their families. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our AI-powered educational platform.

COPPA & GDPR Compliance

Askie is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

Our primary databases and all child profile data are hosted in the European Union (Amsterdam, Netherlands). Some of the sub-processors that help us run the service (for example, analytics, crash reporting, attribution, and AI processing) may process limited technical data on servers in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EU, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and apply strict data minimization. Our legal basis for processing is parental consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Article 8) and legitimate interest for service improvement and safety (Article 6(1)(f)). Parents have full control over their child's information and can review, modify, or delete it at any time through the parent dashboard.

Information We Collect

Parent Account Information

  • Email address
  • Name
  • Subscription and usage information

Child Profile Information

  • Child's first name (optional nickname)
  • Age or date of birth
  • Avatar selection
  • Learning preferences and interests

Usage Information

  • Conversation history (text and voice)
  • Generated images and videos
  • Usage statistics (queries, time spent, features used)
  • Device information and IP address

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide personalized, age-appropriate educational content
  • Maintain conversation history for parental review
  • Improve the quality, reliability, and safety of the service
  • Process subscriptions and payments
  • Send important updates about the service (with parental consent)
  • Ensure child safety through content moderation

AI Services and Data Processing

Askie uses Google Gemini to provide educational content, including text responses, educational images, and voice conversations. Google Gemini processes requests in real time but does NOT store user queries or responses. If Google's service is temporarily unavailable, a text question may instead be processed by a backup AI provider (OpenAI) solely to generate a response; like Google, this provider does not use the content to train its models. We do NOT use your child's conversations, voice recordings, or generated content to train our own AI models.

The app requests explicit in-app consent before any data is sent to our AI providers. Users can decline and no data will be transmitted.

Our AI providers maintain content safety filters to ensure all generated content is appropriate for children.

Long-Term Memory (Optional)

When the Long-Term Memory feature is enabled, Askie may save short, individual facts your child chooses to share during conversations — such as a favorite animal, a hobby, or a goal — so future conversations can feel more personal. Askie is instructed never to save sensitive details (such as addresses, phone numbers, or school names), and we apply additional automatic filters that block contact details from being saved.

These memories are stored in Google Cloud (Vertex AI Memory Bank) on servers located in the European Union, separated per child, and are used solely to personalize your child’s own conversations. They are never used for advertising, never shared with third parties, and never used to train AI models.

Each saved memory is automatically deleted 12 months after it was last updated. All memories are permanently deleted immediately when you delete the child’s profile or your account.

You stay in control: in the Parent Dashboard you can turn memory off at any time, view exactly what Askie remembers about each child, and permanently erase it with one tap (right to access and right to erasure under COPPA and GDPR-K).

Information Sharing

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your child's personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • With our AI providers (Google Gemini, and OpenAI as a backup) for real-time processing of your child's questions — they do NOT store queries or responses or use them to train their models
  • With service providers who help us operate the platform, each under strict confidentiality and data-processing agreements: cloud hosting and infrastructure (Railway, MongoDB Atlas, Google Cloud), voice infrastructure (Daily.co), authentication (Auth0), payments (Apple, Google Play, Stripe, RevenueCat), email (Resend), error monitoring (Sentry), and analytics/attribution (PostHog, Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook, AppsFlyer, Firebase)
  • To comply with legal obligations or protect rights and safety
  • With your explicit consent

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Primary data storage in the EU (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
  • Secure authentication through certified providers
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Strict access controls and authentication
  • Secure payment processing through certified providers

Parental Rights

Parents have the right to:

  • Review all information collected about their child
  • Request deletion of their child's information
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information
  • Access and download conversation history
  • Set usage limits and parental controls

To exercise these rights, contact us at askie@kidsai.app

Data Retention

By default, conversation history stays only on your child's device and is never uploaded to our servers. If you turn on Cloud Sync, history is stored on our servers so you, as the parent, can review your child's conversations across devices, and then automatically deleted on a rolling basis: text chat history after 30 days, voice session records after up to 90 days, and any generated video after up to 60 days. Cloud Sync is on by default for premium accounts; you can turn it off at any time to keep history only on your child's device. When you delete a child profile or close your account, we permanently delete all associated data within 30 days, except where required by law.

To prevent repeat abuse of free access, we retain anonymized account identifiers (hashed Auth0 user IDs) for up to 12 months after account deletion.

Cookies and Tracking

Essential Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your session and provide the service. These cookies are necessary for the platform to function and cannot be disabled.

Analytics Cookies (Optional)

With your consent, we use analytics tools (Meta/Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, and PostHog) to understand how visitors use our website and to improve our service. We configure these tools to collect the minimum data needed. They collect:

  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • General usage statistics (registration, subscription interest)
  • Device and browser information

We do NOT share personally identifiable information about children with these or any third-party analytics provider, and we do not use them for behavioral advertising to children. Analytics are used only to understand aggregate usage patterns of parents and visitors.

You can accept or decline analytics cookies through our cookie consent banner, which appears on your first visit. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage and refreshing the page. You can also control cookie settings through your browser preferences.

Your U.S. State Privacy Rights

If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with a consumer-privacy law (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or Utah), you have additional rights regarding your personal information: the right to know what we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do NOT sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, contact us at askie@kidsai.app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify parents of any material changes via email and update the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
